Abu Dhabi Police have issued a strong reminder about the dangers of distracted driving after a multi-vehicle accident was caused by a driver’s lack of attention. In a recently released video, in collaboration with the Monitoring and Control Center, the police showcased footage of a serious crash that occurred when a driver was distracted during a sudden traffic stop. The video, which has been widely shared on social media, emphasizes the risks associated with using mobile phones while driving

The police pointed out that distracted driving is a significant contributor to road accidents, urging drivers to focus entirely on the road. Officers identified common distractions, such as using mobile devices for browsing, social media, or taking photos while driving, all of which frequently lead to dangerous situations on UAE roads.

Fines and Penalties for Distracted Driving
Abu Dhabi authorities reminded drivers that engaging in distracted driving can result in a Dh800 fine and four black points on their driving license. The black points system is designed to discourage risky driving behavior and can lead to the suspension or revocation of a driver’s license if points accumulate. Abu Dhabi Police stressed that these penalties are strictly enforced to enhance road safety and decrease the number of traffic accidents caused by inattentive drivers.

A Persistent Issue on UAE Roads
With the rise in mobile phone usage, distracted driving has emerged as a leading cause of preventable road accidents throughout the UAE. Abu Dhabi Police have issued repeated warnings and intensified monitoring efforts to lower the number of incidents related to inattentiveness. Recent statistics indicate that distracted driving continues to be one of the primary reasons for collisions, posing a serious threat to the safety of both motorists and pedestrians.

Abu Dhabi Police’s Continued Efforts for Road Safety
The campaign against distracted driving is part of Abu Dhabi’s larger “Road to Safety” initiative, which includes stricter enforcement of traffic laws and the deployment of advanced monitoring systems.
