Motorists in Abu Dhabi will be fined if they don’t give way to pedestrians on roads with a speed limit of 40 km/h or less in certain areas.
Pedestrians have the right of way in residential, school, and hospital areas with 40 km/h speed limits, Abu Dhabi Police stated on Thursday.
The police also noted that these areas do not require marked crossing lines for pedestrians to cross.
Drivers who don’t comply will face a Dh500 fine and 6 traffic points, as per Section 69, for not giving priority to pedestrians.
Motorists are advised to prioritize pedestrians and reduce speed on these roads.
