Known for his ability to connect with diverse audiences, from the 2008 Beijing Olympics to intimate school performances, Lang Lang is bringing a unique experience to Abu Dhabi. This concert will combine Disney’s beloved soundtracks with classical music, offering a fresh and vibrant orchestral interpretation of iconic Disney songs. A full orchestra and special guests will accompany Lang Lang, creating a magical atmosphere for the audience with timeless tracks like Let It Go and The Bare Necessities.

Lang Lang, a cultural ambassador, philanthropist, and educator, has earned worldwide recognition. He has performed for influential figures, including former U.S. President Barack Obama and Queen Elizabeth II. His dedication to inspiring young musicians around the world continues to shape the future of classical music.

Ahead of his performance, we had the opportunity to speak with Lang Lang about the UAE’s classical music scene and his advice for aspiring pianists.

What Inspired Your Disney-Themed Classical Concert?

“My inspiration came from the universal appeal of Disney music. It resonates deeply with audiences of all ages and backgrounds. By reinterpreting these songs with a classical orchestra, we’re adding new layers to the music, allowing listeners to experience these familiar tunes in a fresh way. Expect to journey through Disney’s world, but with a vibrant orchestral energy that highlights the depth of each piece.”

How Do You Combine Disney’s Familiar Tunes with Classical Music?

“My goal is to retain the essence of the original songs while adding the dynamics and complexity of classical music. I want listeners to feel the same joy and excitement they felt when they first heard these songs but discover new emotions and layers that they might not have noticed before. It’s about enhancing the emotional depth of the music while staying true to its core.”

What Role Does the Orchestra and Special Guests Play in This Performance?

“Disney’s music is deeply emotional, and each musician brings their own unique voice to the performance. Collaborating with other artists enriches the experience because each person adds their own style and interpretation to the music. Together, we’re creating a world on stage—a world that captures Disney’s magic, wonder, and imagination.”

Why Is Yas Island the Perfect Venue for Your First Disney Concert in the UAE?

“Yas Island offers an incredible atmosphere with its dynamic, modern setting. The Etihad Arena is an exceptional venue, and performing Disney music here makes it even more magical. The audience in the UAE is passionate and curious, making it the ideal place to introduce this blend of classical and Disney music. I’m thrilled to bring this experience to a place that embraces both culture and innovation.”

How Have Your Collaborations with Renowned Conductors Influenced Your Work?

“Working with great conductors like Sir Simon Rattle and Gustavo Dudamel has taught me the importance of musical dialogue. Their ability to shape sound and bring out the best in every musician continues to inspire me. I’m looking forward to collaborating with Middle Eastern artists during my visit to the UAE. This region has a rich musical heritage, and I’m excited to explore the local talent.”

How Has Your Work as an Educator and Philanthropist Shaped Your Vision for the Future of Classical Music?

“My work with young students keeps me passionate about music and gives me hope for its future. It’s amazing to see how young people engage with classical music when they’re given the opportunity. By investing in the next generation, classical music will continue to evolve and reach new audiences around the world.”

What Are Your Hopes for Classical Music’s Future, Especially in the UAE?

“I hope classical music can serve as a bridge that connects different cultures and unites people. I love seeing local artists incorporate their musical traditions into classical music, creating something unique to this region. Music has the power to transcend boundaries, and I hope it continues to thrive here, inspiring people from all walks of life.”

What Advice Do You Have for Young Pianists Who Aspire to Achieve Greatness?

“Music is a lifelong journey, and while practice is important, don’t forget to enjoy the music. Let it speak to you and bring your personality into your playing. Each musician has a unique voice, and that’s what makes music so beautiful. Most importantly, remember that music is a gift to be shared.”
