She received the award during a ceremony at De Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam on November 19, 2024, recognizing her exceptional efforts to promote gender equality under the Taliban regime.

A Courageous Stand for Afghan Women’s Rights
Ibrahimi, who managed to escape Afghanistan after the Taliban regained power three years ago, has emerged as a strong voice for Afghan girls and women, working to highlight their challenges in the face of oppressive governance. Now living in Canada, she has devoted her life to fighting for the rights of girls in Afghanistan, particularly their right to education, freedom, and safety.

During the award ceremony, Ibrahimi stressed the significance of global solidarity, stating, “We must all continue to give Afghan women strength and hope in the darkest of times.” Her dedication to justice and her determination in overcoming obstacles have made her a symbol of hope for many, placing her alongside other distinguished recipients of the prize, including environmentalist Greta Thunberg and Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai.

A Legacy of Advocacy
Nila’s achievement in receiving this esteemed award underscores the worldwide acknowledgment of the struggles faced by Afghan women and girls, who endure harsh limitations on their freedom, education, and basic rights under the current regime. Her unwavering commitment to change inspires young activists everywhere who are striving for justice and equality.
