Apple is said to be working on releasing a new version of its AR headset, the “Vision Air.” This device is set to respond to criticisms of earlier models by providing a lighter and cheaper option compared to the initial Vision Pro. Titanium parts are expected to compose the Vision Air, meaning it will weigh less overall and be more resilient. It could also arrive in a new “midnight black” color, which will offer a different look.
The transition to titanium not only ensures a more lightweight design but also reflects Apple’s dedication to bettering user comfort for longer periods of wear. Internally, the headset is expected to accommodate Apple’s next-generation M5 chip, offering better performance and battery life.
This new development follows after the initial Vision Pro struggled to sell in the market, with its high cost of $3,499 and sparse content lineup being the targets of criticism. By launching a more affordable version, Apple seeks to expand its consumer base and solidify its place in the crowded AR space.
Though there is no confirmed official release date, insiders believe the Vision Air might be announced sometime later this year, maybe during the iPhone 17 release.
