AR Rahman’s #ARRSairaaBreakup Hashtag Leaves Fans Curious

Is this India’s “unconscious coupling” moment? Fans were left stunned when AR Rahman, the celebrated composer of Jai Ho, announced his divorce from Saira Banu after 29 years of marriage. While many expressed their support and sympathy, the announcement also became a topic of memes and online chatter.

Rahman shared the news on X (formerly Twitter) with a heartfelt yet poetic post:

“We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter.”

Saira Banu also issued a statement, explaining the decision was due to significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love, the challenges they faced created an unbridgeable gap. “This decision comes out of pain and agony,” she added.

However, what caught fans off guard was Rahman’s inclusion of the hashtag #ARRSairaaBreakup in his post.

This sparked a flurry of comments:

  • “Who makes a hashtag for their breakup? Fire your admin, sir!”
  • “Thanks for using the hashtag. It will ensure full privacy under the new X-Privacy law.”
  • “Sad for them. May God give them strength. But why the hashtag?”

Some fans were genuinely puzzled by the move, while others turned it into a meme moment, with one remarking, “That hashtag will be talked about more than the breakup itself.”

Rahman and Banu, who married in 1995 in an arranged marriage, share three children: Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen. Despite their separation, fans hope the couple finds peace and strength in this difficult time.
