The American University of Sharjah (AUS) is boosting the new students through its First Year Experience (FYE) program towards an academically and socially fulfilling journey. The FYE program focuses on supporting a student from the very moment they step onto campus. The FYE program is designed to provide a comprehensive range of resources, workshops, and activities that help a student navigate the many challenges of university life. From academic advising and time management strategies to community-building events, the program ensures students have the tools they need to succeed on day one. This is an initiative to create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for all AUS students.

The FYE program is designed to meet the specific needs of first-year students, most of whom are moving from high school to university. Personalized academic advising is given to the students in the areas of course selection, degree planning, and career exploration. Workshops on study skills, stress management, and effective communication further equip them to handle the demands of university life. In addition, the program emphasizes the importance of building a strong support network, connecting students with peers, faculty, and mentors who can offer guidance and encouragement.

Besides the focus on academics, the FYE program emphasizes guiding students in better integration into the AUS community. Organized social events and cultural activities offer opportunities for exposure to the entire AUS system, thereby infusing a feeling of belonging with personal growth, preparing them more for challenges in the future or opportunities. Hence, creating such a holistic system of support and preparation helps develop students who will not only excel academically but also withstand emotional and social shocks.

Such positive feedback from students and higher retention rates at AUS confirm that the FYE program has been a success. Many participants attribute to the program building confidence, developing essential skills, and making lifelong connections. As AUS continues to focus on student success, the FYE program is a cornerstone of the education experience, which it aims to transform. For new students, it is more than a program; it is the basis for a bright and successful future.
