Australia captain Pat Cummins played a crucial supporting role, contributing 49 runs. Cummins and Smith formed a decisive 112-run partnership, helping the team recover after resuming the day at 311 for six. At the break, Smith remained unbeaten on 139, while Mitchell Starc supported with 15 runs.

Tough Day for Mohammed Siraj

India’s pacer Mohammed Siraj had a tough outing, struggling to contain runs as Australia capitalized on his spells. The home crowd jeered Siraj throughout the day, reflecting the tension carried over from his heated send-off to Travis Head in the previous match. Siraj went wicketless, conceding 115 runs, including a few extras as bouncers soared over wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant’s gloves for byes.

Siraj’s challenges escalated when Steve Smith hit him for a six and a four on consecutive deliveries, cementing the batter’s dominance.

Amid the game’s intensity, India’s players wore black armbands as a mark of respect for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 92.

Australia’s strong first-innings total puts them in a commanding position, with India now facing a daunting task to level the playing field.
