In a deeply disturbing case that has sent shockwaves across Karnataka, two college lecturers and their friend have been arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly raping and blackmailing a female student. The accused reportedly assaulted the victim multiple times and used compromising material to threaten her into silence, sparking outrage and demands for stricter protections on campuses.
Police investigations state that the victim was repeatedly sexually assaulted by the accused after being seduced under the guise of academic assistance. Using their position of authority, the professors recorded offensive material and utilised it to pressure the student into continuing to be mistreated. In addition to frightening the victim, the third accomplice was important in enabling the crime.
After the student courageously filed a police report with the help of family and friends, the matter became public knowledge. Authorities swiftly acted, arresting the accused and registering cases under rape, criminal intimidation, and provisions of the IT Act. Police are also investigating whether other victims were similarly targeted and whether more people were involved in the blackmail ring.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with student bodies and rights groups calling for institutional reforms, better grievance redressal systems, and psychological support for survivors. The college administration has suspended the lecturers and promised full cooperation with the investigation. The case serves as a grim reminder of the need to ensure student safety and accountability within educational institutions.
