In a gesture of kindness, BTS member Jin and award-winning singer-actress IU have each contributed a substantial amount — together more than Dh260,000 (approximately 100 million Korean won) — to children’s hospitals and welfare institutions around South Korea on the eve of Children’s Day (May 5). Their combined gesture has touched fans’ hearts and earned their appreciation for their social responsibility and compassion.
Jin, the oldest member of BTS who just finished his military service, stated in a statement, “My heart always hurts when I think about children fighting diseases. I want them to feel love and strength on this special day.” His donation went to the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation, one of Korea’s biggest child welfare NGOs, and will be utilized for the treatment and recovery of seriously ill children.
IU, who has been known for her regular philanthropy, also contributed to the same foundation and various child welfare centers. The artist, who has long employed her platform to aid marginalized communities, said: “Children’s laughter should never be dampened by suffering. I hope this donation brings comfort and happiness to even a few hearts.”
They’re joined by other Korean stars like Kim Go-eun, Park Bo-young, and Jung Hae-in, who are also coming forth with donations to support the trend of using star power for charitable purposes. The Children’s Day in South Korea is celebrated in the form of gift-giving, taking people out, and bringing smiles on the faces of children — in hospitals, shelter homes, and foster care in particular.
This shower of goodwill has once again raised Jin and IU as not only symbols of Korean entertainment, but also as **leaders of empathy**. Everyone on social media, using the hashtags #JinWithLove and #IUsHeart among others, have praised their act of kindness and urging others to give back.
