Millions of users worldwide were affected as the AI chatbot, ChatGPT, went down for a global outage on January 23, 2025. The outage lasted for several hours and was brought by a “Bad Gateway Error,” which resulted in the denial of service to the users. People cried out on social media complaining about slow login processes and degraded performance.
OpenAI, the company that owns ChatGPT, hasn’t issued any official statement on the issue or about the cause behind it. Still, the service has been restored, and everything is back to normal. While the outage lasted, users utilized other AI chatbots such as Gemini and Copilot to get their work done.
This is the third major outage since December 2024 for ChatGPT. This raises some serious concerns regarding the reliability of the infrastructure supporting the platform. OpenAI is now investigating the matter to prevent any future disruptions and ensure a smooth user experience.
