Crispy Meat Bread Rolls: The Perfect After-School Snack

Looking for an easy and satisfying after-school snack that the kids will love? These crispy meat bread rolls are the answer! Packed with a flavorful filling of tender, spiced meat and mashed potatoes, wrapped in soft bread and fried to golden perfection, they make for a delightful treat that can be prepared in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients:

  • 500g beef or boneless meat
  • 100g potato
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 100g onion (chopped)
  • 10g ginger (chopped)
  • 3 garlic cloves (chopped)
  • 4 green chillies (chopped)
  • 1 sprig of curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp black pepper powder
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves (chopped)
  • ¼ cup water
  • Salt to taste
  • 20 slices of bread
  • Oil for frying

Prepare the Meat: Start by washing the meat thoroughly, then place it in a pressure cooker with turmeric powder, salt, and a small amount of water. Cook for about 5-6 whistles or until the meat becomes tender. Once done, let the pressure release naturally, then continue cooking over medium heat until any excess water evaporates. Allow the meat to cool before mincing it in a blender.

Cook the Filling: Boil the potatoes until soft, then peel and mash them. In a frying pan, heat some coconut oil and add mustard seeds. When they start to splutter, toss in chopped onions, ginger, garlic, green chillies, and curry leaves. Sauté everything until the onions turn lightly golden. Add the minced meat and stir-fry for 7-8 minutes, seasoning with pepper powder and garam masala. Finally, mix in the mashed potatoes and chopped coriander leaves, then set the filling aside to cool.

Assemble the Rolls: Cut off the crusts from the bread slices. Quickly dip each slice in water, ensuring it’s damp but not soaked. Place a spoonful of the meat mixture in the center of each slice, roll it up, and repeat this process with the remaining slices.

Fry the Rolls: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the rolls in batches, turning them until they are golden and crisp. Drain them on tissue paper and serve with ketchup or mint chutney for a delightful snack that’s perfect any time of day.
