A curfew has been declared in sections of Nagpur after violent riots broke out owing to tensions about the Aurangzeb tomb. The trouble left several persons injured and more than 50 rioters detained and arrested along with those for attacking police forces.

The violence escalated after a mob organized a demonstration at the graveyard site, engaging in clashes with rival groups as well as security officials. Protesters hurled stones, shattered vehicles, and injured some security officers in attempts to maintain control over the gangs.

Maharashtra Chief Minister denounced the violence, promising that the perpetrators would be dealt with harshly. “No attack on police will be tolerated, and rioters will be dealt with firmly,” he stated at a press conference.

Security personnel have been deployed in large numbers to ensure order, and mobile internet services are still suspended in sensitive locations. The authorities are asking citizens to remain calm and assist the police in restoring normalcy.
