A fan of cycling has confessed to tossing a bottle at Dutch cyclist Mathieu Van der Poel in the Paris-Roubaix race, referring to the act as “stupid” and apologizing for his actions. The incident was witnessed as Van der Poel was going through the demanding race, but this did not dissuade the experienced cyclist from winning the competition.

The fan, who was identified shortly after the race, admitted his actions were hasty and unjustified. “It was a stupid mistake,” he told the media, apologizing for interrupting the race and ruining the atmosphere for participants and spectators alike.

Regardless of the disruption, Van der Poel kept his eyes on the ball and won the high-profile race for a third year in succession, which helped to cement his place as an all-time legend in cycling. His effort was praised by the public and commentators alike as one of the finest in contemporary cycling history.

The incident triggered discussions regarding spectator behavior at sports events, and many have asked for tighter measures to guarantee safety and respect to players during events. Van der Poel nonetheless demonstrated class when reacting to the incident, urging people to ignore distractions in a bid to excel.
