Deadly Landslides Hit Guizhou, China: Two Killed, 19 Trapped

At least two people have been confirmed dead and 19 others remain trapped after a series of devastating landslides struck Guizhou province in southwest China, according to state media reports. The incident occurred following days of relentless rainfall, which triggered the earth to collapse in several mountainous regions, burying homes and cutting off roads.

Rescue efforts are ongoing, but rescue teams are encountering significant difficulties with unstable ground, non-stop rain, and impassable roadways. Heavy equipment has been used to remove wreckage, and authorities have deployed more than 300 rescue workers to find and extract the stranded persons.

Those who work here say that the most important thing is to get to survivors as quickly as possible. But the rain continues to create a threat of more landslides, and rescue workers must weigh urgency against safety. “We work day and night, but it is very dangerous here,” said a local rescue worker.

Guizhou, which is famous for its rough terrain and susceptibility to natural disasters, experienced a rise in climate-related accidents in the last few years. Authorities have asked neighbouring residents to leave their homes and stay on guard, as weather conditions are expected to see more rain in the days to come. The central government has committed complete support for ensuring the safety of all such affected communities.
