In a shocking incident, an old Sikh couple was strangled to death by their attendant in Delhi, who later absconded with money and jewels from their expensive residence. The couple, popular for their flourishing garments business, were discovered lifeless by members of their family after they remained unresponsive to phone calls.
Police reports suggest that the caregiver, hired to work for the elderly couple, carefully plotted the crime and carried it out at night. Officials reported that the suspect vanished moments after the killing, prompting a manhunt around the city.
The crime shocked the community and brought concerns on the increasing incidence of crimes perpetrated by domestic helpers and caregivers. “They completely trusted him and this betrayal cannot be understood,” said a friend of the family.
Instructors are currently screening CCTV footage and have informed checkpoints on the border that the caregiver could be planning to leave the country. The Delhi Police called upon families in the meantime to be vigilant and carefully screen home help before bringing them on board.
