Delhi Chief Minister made a symbolic gesture towards civic duty by sweeping a mandir complex personally with a broom, kicking off a city-wide 20-day sanitation campaign. The gesture set the tone for the ambitious project to make public spaces in Delhi cleaner and healthier places. The action generated widespread attention, reinforcing the government’s message of community-driven sanitation.
Speaking to citizens post-activity, the CM reiterated the need for teamwork. “We all need to take to the streets,” he urged citizens to make a conscious effort to keep their locales spick and span. The movement calls upon schools, market bodies, resident welfare associations, and religious places to lend effort and hours to the cause.
The 20-day campaign will also touch upon main points such as parks, public toilets, markets, and religious places. Municipality squads will be deployed with added resources whereas volunteers will implement awareness drives on segregation of waste, plastic minimization, and correct disposal. The government has also launched an app for monitoring purposes to maintain transparency along with invites for public comments.
This initiative is timed as Delhi continues to grapple with issues of waste and pollution in urban areas. By taking the lead, the Chief Minister has initiated a movement that combines civic consciousness and environmental stewardship, reminding citizens that change starts with small, tangible steps.
