Karnataka’s Director General of Police, DGP Ramachandra Rao, has been left in deep dismay over his stepdaughter Ranya Rao’s alleged gold smuggling case. The senior police officer, who is renowned for his integrity as a policeman, claimed that he had no interaction with Ranya since her marriage and had no knowledge of what she was doing.

Ranya Rao, a popular actress turned self-styled Gulf-based realtor, has confessed to smuggling 17 gold bars into India. The case has generated huge controversy, with investigators tracing her to an international smuggling network that is based between the Gulf and India. Her arrest has also sparked increased scrutiny of the gold smuggling trade, which is a recurring problem at Indian airports.

DGP Rao, separating himself from the scandal, explained that Ranya had not been to their house since her wedding, reiterating that her conduct should not affect his professional reputation. The case is under investigation by CBI, with the authorities digging deeper into her financial dealings and overseas links.

As the case unfolds, Ranya Rao’s career in the entertainment sector looks uncertain, with industry leaders shocked over her reported involvement. The authorities, meanwhile, are determined to break up high-profile gold smuggling syndicates, ensuring tighter controls and surveillance at international borders.
