Diego Forlan, the former striker for Manchester United and Atletico Madrid, shared on Tuesday that he feels “like a little boy” after trading in his football boots for a tennis racket at the age of 45.

The Uruguayan forward made these comments during the launch of the Uruguay Open, where he is set to make his professional tennis debut next week.

Key Highlights:
Transition to Tennis:
Forlan expressed his enthusiasm about moving to tennis, stating, “I enjoy it (tennis) like a little boy, and having the privilege of playing a professional tournament is a luxury.” The tournament will be held at the Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club in Montevideo from November 10 to 17.

Professional Debut: After retiring from the Uruguayan national team in 2015 and from club football in 2019, Forlan will team up with Argentina’s Federico Coria, the 32-year-old brother of Argentina’s Davis Cup captain, Guillermo Coria, for doubles play.

Sense of Joy: Forlan’s comments reflect his genuine excitement for this new phase in his athletic journey. “It’s a new challenge and a way to stay active and competitive,” he noted, highlighting the joy and thrill he feels as he steps into the realm of professional tennis.

Career Highlights: Forlan enjoyed a remarkable football career, representing prestigious clubs like Manchester United and Atletico Madrid. Renowned for his skill and determination on the pitch, he brings the same passion to his pursuits after retirement.

Forlan’s transition from football to tennis showcases his passion for sports and competition. Competing in the Uruguay Open is sure to attract attention and may even motivate other retired athletes to explore new sporting challenges.
