If you’re using the Uber app, simply go to the Ride Preferences section in your settings to opt in. This increases your chances of being matched with WeRide vehicles when you book UberX or Uber Comfort services.

Where Is the Service Available?

The service is initially limited to certain locations like Saadiyat Island, Yas Island, and routes connecting to Zayed International Airport. However, there are plans to expand the service to more areas across Abu Dhabi soon.

Safety Comes First

In the early stages, each vehicle will have a safety operator on board to ensure a smooth and secure experience for both passengers and pedestrians. This trial phase is part of the preparation for a full commercial rollout of driverless services, expected in 2025.

The Official Launch

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs, officially launched this innovative autonomous mobility service.

Under the guidance of the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council (SASC), Tawasul Transport will operate the WeRide fleet on the Uber platform, with the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) supporting this initiative.

A Word from the ITC

Dr. Abdulla Al Ghafli, Acting Director-General of the Integrated Transport Centre, shared his thoughts on this milestone:

“This initiative is a big step toward improving transportation and adopting cutting-edge technologies. We are confident that self-driving vehicles will offer passengers a safe and unique experience.

This move also supports our goals of achieving more sustainable and efficient transportation solutions in Abu Dhabi. We’ll continue working to enhance smart transport adoption and improve the quality of life for residents. Collaborating with local and global partners will help us achieve this vision.”

This collaboration marks a significant advancement in Abu Dhabi’s transportation landscape, combining innovation with sustainability for a smarter future.
