The Ministry of Health and Prevention oversees healthcare across the UAE, while the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) manages government hospitals in Dubai.

Is Health Insurance Mandatory in Dubai?

Yes, it is mandatory for all residents and citizens in Dubai to have a valid health insurance plan. Most residents receive insurance through their employers, which significantly reduces healthcare costs. However, many wonder if treatment at government hospitals is free.

Are Government Hospitals Free in Dubai?

Government hospitals in Dubai may offer free services in emergencies, but this depends on the specific situation. According to a DHA representative, in emergency cases where no treatment is required, a doctor may waive the fee. However, for most cases requiring treatment, residents must present their Emirates ID to use their medical insurance.

For standard consultations, patients are typically charged a fee of Dh188. However, children with valid vaccine and health cards can receive vaccinations free of charge.
