Dubai Police has introduced advanced smart traffic systems to improve road safety and monitor traffic violations, according to Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police. These new technologies can detect violations, even when drivers try to hide their actions, like using tinted front windows.
Al Mazrouei highlighted that Dubai Police is investing in these technologies to ensure the safety and security of road users. The systems can identify multiple violations inside the vehicle, such as not wearing a seatbelt, using a mobile phone, or being distracted by other activities while driving.
Recently, the advanced camera systems captured serious cases of distracted driving, which are dangerous for other road users. These incidents included a woman talking on two phones at once and a driver reading a newspaper while driving, blocking their view of the road. In response to these events, Dubai Police released an awareness video as part of their traffic safety campaigns under the slogan #Safe_Road_for_All.
Major General Al Mazrouei stressed the severe consequences of distracted driving, referencing recent changes in Decree No. 30 of 2023. The update allows for the impoundment of vehicles for 30 days if drivers are found using phones or engaging in other distractions.
The video is part of Dubai Police’s continued efforts to raise awareness and reduce accidents, especially severe ones. These campaigns encourage the public to follow speed limits, maintain safe distances from other vehicles, respect pedestrians, and always comply with road safety regulations.
Through these initiatives, Dubai Police aims to create a safer city, focusing on the well-being of the community, minimizing traffic incidents, and ensuring drivers follow the law to prevent accidents.
