Who Can Apply for Free Pest Control in Dubai?

Both residents and citizens can request pest control services through Dubai Municipality. However, the pests covered vary:

  • Citizens: Eligible for all types of public health pest control services.
  • Residents: Eligible for free services against specific pests:
    • Disease-transmitting pests: Flies, mosquitoes, and rodents.
    • Poisonous pests: Scorpions, snakes, bees, wasps, hornets, and poisonous spiders.

Schools and government departments can also avail toxic pest control services. Note that the free pest control service may not cover certain areas, which will be detailed below.

How to Apply for Pest Control Services

You can apply for the service via:

  • Dubai Now app
  • Dubai Municipality call center
  • Dubai Municipality app
  • Official website chatbot

Steps to Apply:

  1. Select the “Pest and Insect Control at Home” service.
  2. Fill in your details (name, phone number, address, and targeted pest).
  3. Submit your request.

After applying, you’ll receive an SMS with your application details and an appointment date:

  • Within 4 working days for public health pests.
  • Within 24 hours for poisonous pests.

A Dubai Municipality employee will visit your home on the scheduled date to begin pest control. If the issue persists, you can file a second request 15 days after the initial service.

Key Points for Residents

If you require pest control for pests not covered under the free service, you can contact a licensed pest control company. Follow these steps to access the approved list:

  1. Visit the Dubai Municipality website.
  2. Go to the menu (top left, three lines icon).
  3. Select Legislation and Information, then navigate to Health and Safety.
  4. Click Public Health Pest Control Section for the list of authorized companies.

It is important to only use licensed companies as unregulated pesticide use poses health risks.

Additional Pest Control Services

  • Pigeon Control: Involves trapping birds in cages or using narcotic substances after approval.
  • Emergency Cases: The Municipality prioritizes cases involving poisonous pests (e.g., snakes, scorpions, spiders), properties of rulers and Sheikhs, or notifications from VIPs.

However, this service is not available in:

  • Jebel Ali Free Zone: Managed by Emdad pest control services.
  • Investment and real estate development areas: Managed by contracted pest control companies.

Tips to Prevent Pest Infestation

  1. Inspect used furniture for pests before purchase.
  2. Check laundry thoroughly when picking up clothes.
  3. Avoid areas with stagnant water to prevent mosquito breeding.
  4. Keep an eye out for signs of infestation in public spaces and poultry shops.

Interesting Facts About Pests in Dubai

  • There are three main types of cockroaches in Dubai:
    • German cockroaches: Found in kitchens and bathrooms.
    • American cockroaches: Thrive in sewer systems.

  • Termites are not public health pests but are economic pests, causing damage to property.
