Ferjan Dubai and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) are leading Dubai’s well-liked Al Freej Fridge campaign, which is intensifying for its second summer. After serving 1 million cold water, juices, and ice creams to workers in 2024, the initiative now aims to distribute 2 million refreshments across Dubai’s outdoor workforce—including cleaners, delivery riders, landscapers, and construction crews—through August 23
The effort combines roaming refrigerated trucks that deliver daily to hot zones and stocked fridges set up in worker accommodation areas. Community volunteers and companies like Azizi Developments are also mobilizing to help distribute the cold treats.
The programme tackles the serious risks of heat stress and dehydration during the sweltering summer months, when temperatures frequently rise beyond 49°C. In order to provide comfort and express gratitude to the workers who assist in the construction and upkeep of the city, the campaign’s trucks delivered over 35,000 refreshments per day last year alone.
Ibrahim Al Balooshi of MBRGI referred to the campaign as “a model of collaborative humanitarian action,” emphasising the value of combining community vigour with institutional backing. The programme, which combines public, business, and volunteer efforts to strengthen Dubai’s culture of compassion and ensure that workers flourish even in high heat, is supported by partners including Suqia UAE and the UAE Food Bank.
