Dubai’s busy Oud Metha area has experienced a notable improvement in traffic flow. There is a reduction in congestion following the Quick Traffic Solutions Plan. These focused upgrades are a part of RTA’s initiative to modernize infrastructure in response to urban growth. It has led to shorter travel times, increased road capacity, and improved safety for the area’s residents.
Enhanced Road Capacity and Safety Measures
Significant improvements include the widening of entry and exit points between Umm Hurair Street and Oud Metha. The RTA has added 317 meters of deceleration and acceleration lanes. This enhancement allows for greater traffic volumes.
It has reduced travel times by nearly 40% during peak hours. It has alleviated one of the area’s main bottlenecks. Furthermore, a service road exit on Umm Hurair Street has been expanded from two lanes to three over a 100-meter stretch. It will boost the traffic flow capacity by 50% and minimize the chances of long backups at intersections.
Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at the RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, stated that these improvements are part of a larger strategy. This strategy will accommodate Oud Metha’s rapid population growth and vibrant business landscape.
“The area features a wide array of facilities. There are hospitals, shopping centers, schools, and sports complexes,” he noted. “By expanding the road network, adding new lighting, and upgrading the surface, we are promoting safety and traffic efficiency.”
New Parking Spaces and Upgraded Roundabout Infrastructure
As part of the initiative, the RTA has introduced 27 new parking spaces in high-traffic commercial areas. It will serve the visitors in a better way. Al Shehhi emphasized that these new spaces are designed to improve access to businesses. This initiative will alleviate parking-related congestion. It will ultimately contribute to the overall efficiency of the area.
