The UAE authorities have issued a weather warning as intense dust storms and high winds hit the nation, drastically cutting visibility and impacting daily life. Citizens have been advised to take precautions, refrain from unnecessary travel, and stay indoors whenever possible. The sudden change in weather has also caused concern regarding road safety and health hazards, particularly for people suffering from respiratory illnesses.
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) also reported that the wind speeds had reached a high of 45 km/h in certain regions, picking up loose sand and debris. Hazy skies and dusty weather had been experienced by a number of regions, including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah, leading to warnings for motorists and pedestrians. Visibility has plummeted in open spaces, increasing the danger of accidents on the road.
Coastal regions are facing especially turbulent seas, with waves up to 7 feet high in certain areas of the Arabian Gulf. Fishermen and beachcombers have been told to avoid shorelines until conditions return to normal. Flights could also face delays or diversion because of low visibility and air turbulence.
The unsettled weather is forecast to persist through the next 24 to 48 hours before improving gradually after that. Officials remain on alert and urge people to remain informed through official outlets. Face masks, shut windows, and hydrating are among the safety measures suggested during this dust-filled phase.
