Emirati photographer Salma Al Suwaidi has been awarded $50,000 in one of the most prestigious photography competitions for her book about birds in the UAE. She received the ‘Photography Content Creator award, a special category of the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA). Al Suwaidi is the second recipient of a special award in the 13th season of HIPA, which honors editors, publishers, bloggers, researchers, and innovators who have made notable contributions to the field of photography.
Her work is showcased in her book, ‘Common Birds and their Nests in the United Arab Emirates. This book has garnered acclaim from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who praised her as “A passionate photographer whose dedication has led her to explore nature and document the avian life of the UAE.”
