The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has introduced a grace period for taxpayers who have not updated their tax registration information, which will conclude in March 2025. This initiative is intended to help businesses meet their tax obligations more effectively.

Key Details:
Grace Period Announcement:
The FTA has announced a grace period for tax registrants who have not updated their tax records from January 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025. This period allows those who have fallen behind to make necessary updates and avoid administrative penalties for failing to notify the FTA about changes that require adjustments to their tax records.

Objective of the Grace Period: The purpose of this grace period is to assist businesses that may have had difficulty keeping their tax information current, allowing them to comply without facing immediate penalties. This initiative is part of the FTA’s broader strategy to promote compliance and support the economic activities of businesses in the UAE.

Steps for Taxpayers:
Update Tax Records:
Tax registrants are encouraged to promptly review and update their tax registration information to prevent any administrative penalties. This includes ensuring that their business activities and tax liabilities are accurately reflected.

Utilize Support Services: The FTA has also made additional resources and support services available to help businesses update their tax records. This includes help desks, online resources, and customer service representatives ready to assist taxpayers throughout the process.

Avoid Penalties: By taking advantage of the grace period, taxpayers can rectify any discrepancies or outdated information without facing penalties, thus ensuring compliance with tax regulations.

A spokesperson for the FTA highlighted the significance of this grace period in upholding the integrity of the tax system and aiding the business community. “This initiative demonstrates our dedication to creating a supportive environment where businesses can flourish while fulfilling their tax responsibilities,” the spokesperson stated.

The FTA urges all impacted taxpayers to act promptly to take advantage of this opportunity and ensure their tax records are correctly updated before the deadline.

Future Implications:
This grace period represents a proactive strategy by the FTA to assist businesses and encourage compliance. It emphasizes the necessity of keeping accurate tax records and the FTA’s readiness to offer flexibility in achieving this objective.
