Pakkarkante, an Indian expatriate and seasoned fisherman, won Dh150,000 in the most recent Big Ticket Abu Dhabi draw in a touching stroke of luck. Pakkarkante, who has lived in the UAE capital for more than a decade, was one of the fortunate few whose name was selected in the wildly popular monthly lottery that draws thousands of aspirants from all over the world.
Pakkarkante intends to share the prise with 12 of his closest friends, many of whom are also blue-collar labourers, which only serves to highlight how inspirational his story is. “To purchase the ticket, we combined our funds. I’m grateful to share this moment with the people who’ve stood by me,” he shared in a phone interview following the announcement.
The Big Ticket draw, known for turning dreams into reality, has become a symbol of hope for many in the UAE’s working-class communities. Pakkarkante’s win exemplifies the joy and communal spirit often associated with the lottery, particularly among those who collectively chase the dream of a better life.
As the prize money brings newfound relief and opportunity, Pakkarkante says he hopes to send a portion home to India to support his family and invest in a small business. “This win is more than just money—it’s a blessing,” he said, beaming with gratitude.
