Three men tragically lost their lives in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, after their vehicle plunged into the Ramganga River while allegedly following directions from Google Maps. The victims, identified as Nitin Kumar (30), Ajit Kumar (35), and Amit Kumar (30), were on their way to a wedding in Faridpur when the accident occurred late Saturday night.
Accident Details
The group, traveling from Gurugram, was unaware that the bridge ahead was incomplete. The approach to the bridge on the Faridpur side had been destroyed months earlier due to floods, but the lack of proper signage or barricades led the vehicle to drive off the edge.
Lapses in Safety
Local authorities have acknowledged failures in bridge maintenance and road signage, raising concerns about administrative negligence. Residents and the families of the victims have pointed to poor infrastructure and a lack of preventive measures as contributing factors to the tragedy.
A Call for Accountability
This incident underscores the risks of relying solely on digital navigation tools, particularly in areas with insufficient infrastructure. Experts advise that GPS usage should be complemented with local knowledge and updated road safety measures.
Authorities are currently investigating the situation to ensure accountability and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
