Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed has unveiled the ‘Hewi Dubai’ initiative, a cultural revival project aimed at breathing new life into traditional Emirati neighbourhoods. ‘Hewi’—meaning “my identity” in Emirati dialect—focuses on restoring the architectural, social, and cultural essence of historic areas, making them vibrant spaces for future generations. The initiative will see the revitalization of public squares, traditional markets, and shared community spaces, ensuring that the authentic spirit of Emirati life is not lost in the rapid urban expansion.
Under this visionary program, chosen neighborhoods will become exemplars of cultural retention and contemporary functionality, where local artists, food vendors, and craftspeople are supported to flourish.
