Noted director Hansal Mehta has stressed the importance of greater recognition and more meaningful roles for women in Hindi film. While discussing the changing scenario of Bollywood, Mehta pointed out the vast talent pool among women actors and called for the industry to provide them with more complex and powerful roles.
Mehta, who has made critically acclaimed movies and series, appreciated new actresses such as Triptii Dimri, Sharvari Wagh, and Ananya Panday for the work they have done. He is of the opinion that these new artists are capable of reshaping Bollywood’s narrative if provided with proper opportunities.
Although noting improvements in women’s films, Mehta emphasized that male-oriented scripts and industry prejudices continue to keep female performers from realizing their potential. He advocated a change in narrative where women are more than just love interests or supporting actors.
With more directors calling for substantive representation, Bollywood seems to be on the verge of transformation. Mehta’s words are a reminder that the industry needs to keep pushing for inclusivity, diversity, and powerful female-led stories.
