In a trailblazing exercise, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have revealed proposals to host the inaugural North London derby outside of the United Kingdom. The friendly match will be held on July 31, 2025, at Hong Kong’s brand-new Kai Tak Stadium, which has a capacity of 50,000.
This match is intended to further strengthen the clubs’ bonds with their fans in Asia and as crucial pre-season preparation before the 2025-2026 Premier League campaign. Arsenal Managing Director Richard Garlick hailed the return to Hong Kong after 13 years as a chance to connect with fans in the territory.
Tottenham’s Chief Revenue Officer Ryan Norys said the same, adding that staging the derby in Hong Kong is a great way to reach out to the club’s zealous Asian fan base.
Fans have reacted differently to the news. While some are excited to experience the rivalry first-hand, others are complaining about the potential environmental cost and breaking with tradition.
