Hospital Equipment Seized in Dubai to Pay Unpaid Staff Salaries

A Dubai court has ordered the confiscation of medical equipment and furniture at a healthcare facility to address unpaid debts and settle overdue salaries for staff, including doctors and nurses.

The seizure was carried out after a court-appointed executor inspected the facility in March 2023. During the visit, the executor documented all medical tools, equipment, and furniture at the site.

Items taken include high-value medical tools like X-ray machines, automated analyzers, and bronchoscopy equipment worth millions of dirhams. Basic essentials, such as patient beds, infusion pumps, and blood pressure monitors, were also seized. The most notable asset was a catheterization cardiac system valued at Dh1.7 million.

The court’s decision came as the hospital was unable to pay its creditors and staff, leading to the confiscation of its assets to recover the outstanding amounts.

Staff Reactions

This move has evoked mixed reactions among the hospital’s employees. Many had been waiting for months without receiving their salaries. A former physician shared: “For too long, the hospital failed us. Justice has finally been served.”

Similarly, a nurse commented: “I struggled to pay rent and bills. This is bittersweet — it marks the end of a workplace, but also brings hope that we’ll finally be compensated.”
