Renewing your health card is essential to maintain access to affordable healthcare services in the UAE. Your Emirates Health Services (EHS) health card offers discounts at government hospitals, helping you save on medical costs, even with insurance.

With the health card, you get a 20% discount on all EHS services. If you’re a Person of Determination (PoD), you can access all EHS services for free.

Validity of Health Card

It’s important to note that while your health card is connected to your Emirates ID, its validity isn’t dependent on your Emirates ID’s expiration date. The health card is valid for one year for UAE residents, while UAE and GCC nationals get five years of validity.

How to Renew Your Health Card

Renewing your health card might seem complicated, but it’s a simple and quick process. Here’s how you can renew it:

Eligibility
This service is available for UAE citizens, GCC citizens, and UAE residents whose health cards are nearing expiration.

Requirements
If you’re a resident, you only need your valid Emirates ID. For UAE citizens, both the Emirates ID and a copy of the Family Book are required.

Steps to Renew Your Health Card Online

  1. Visit the EHS website (ehs.gov.ae).
  2. Click on ‘Patient Services.’
  3. Select ‘Renew Health Card’ then click ‘Start Now.’
  4. Log in using your UAE Pass.
  5. Confirm the authentication request from your phone.
  6. Choose your healthcare category based on nationality.
  7. Click ‘Apply.’
  8. You’ll be asked if you’re applying for yourself or someone else, so choose the appropriate option.
  9. In the ‘Application type’ tab, click ‘Renew.’
  10. Enter your Emirates ID number and click ‘Search.’
  11. Once your details are confirmed, click ‘Proceed.’
  12. Go to the payment step and confirm your payment.
  13. You’ll receive an SMS confirming your renewal.
  14. After approval, your EHS health card will be linked to your Emirates ID.

Using the EHS App for Renewal

If you prefer using your phone, you can apply through the EHS app:

  1. Log in using your UAE Pass.
  2. Tap ‘Services,’ then go to ‘Renew Health Card.’
  3. Choose ‘Apply for service.’
  4. In the ‘Applying for’ tab, select ‘I am the applicant’ or ‘On behalf of someone.’
  5. Tap ‘Renew’ under application type and enter your Emirates ID number.
  6. Tap ‘Search,’ confirm your details, and click ‘Proceed.’
  7. Complete the payment step and confirm via SMS.
  8. Your health card will automatically renew and link to your Emirates ID.

Alternatively, you can visit a typing center with your Emirates ID for assistance.

Fees for Renewal

  • Expats: Dh115 for health card renewal, plus Dh15 for the EHS application form.
  • UAE/GCC nationals: Dh35 for renewal.

When to Renew Your Health Card

Be sure to check the expiration dates of both your Emirates ID and health card. It’s best to renew your health card a month before it expires to ensure a smooth process. Make sure your Emirates ID is valid when applying to avoid any issues.
