In 2024, 656 e-scooters were seized by Dubai Police for traffic violations in Al Barsha. Checkpoints are placed to apprehend careless drivers and encourage better driving practices.

June 30, 2025, Dubai, UAE — Dubai Police said that 656 electric scooters were seized in the Al Barsha region in 2024 for a variety of traffic infractions, as part of their ongoing efforts to maintain road safety and enforce traffic laws.

The crackdown came as part of a targeted campaign aimed at curbing reckless riding, particularly on pedestrian walkways, main roads, and areas where e-scooter use is prohibited. Throughout the year, police set up several road checkpoints, concentrating on areas with significant pedestrian traffic and rising scooter usage.

The programme intends to “promote safer road behaviour and protect all road users—pedestrians, motorists, and riders alike,” according to Brigadier Abdul Raheem bin Shafee, Director of Al Barsha Police Station.

Riding in non-designated places, not wearing safety equipment like helmets, and ignoring traffic signals were among the infractions. Numerous scooter riders were also observed driving their vehicles in prohibited areas or without the required registration.

In line with Dubai’s Vision Zero objective of lowering traffic-related fatalities and injuries, the programme is a component of Dubai Police’s larger strategy. Authorities stressed how crucial it is to follow RTA’s e-scooter rules, which include age limitations, speed limits, and designated riding zones.

Dubai Police have urged the public to be aware of the rules and encouraged parents to ensure that minors do not misuse e-scooters, especially in crowded neighborhoods.

With the rise in popularity of micro-mobility solutions across the city, law enforcement agencies are intensifying education and enforcement efforts to ensure safety remains a top priority.

“We support innovation and smart mobility,” Brig. Shafee added, “but not at the cost of public safety.”
