The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of India has passed a resolution unanimously demanding more transparency and accountability in the current process. Political party leaders from different parties met in a rare display of unity, citing issues of fairness and fair representation.
The JAC also stressed that the delimitation exercise should strictly be guided by democratic principles and ensure that the process will not exclude certain communities or regions. “Transparency is paramount in keeping public trust in this vital exercise,” quoted one member of the committee.
Some leaders emphasized open consultations and public participation. “The public must feel listened to, and their issues seen in the end result,” said a senior official, calling on authorities to share pertinent data and criteria for public access.
The resolution is a welcome step in building cross-party consensus and echoes increasing demands that the delimitation process be more inclusive and transparent to ensure democratic principles.
