India Raises Concern Over Deportation Row: ‘People Should Be Treated with Dignity

India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has expressed grave concern over the treatment of Indian deportees, emphasizing that human dignity must be upheld at all costs. His remarks have come amidst the growing outrage following the release of a video by US Border Patrol, where Indian migrants were seen in chains during their deportation.

Misri said that New Delhi has already lodged a protest with Washington and asked the US to ensure deportation processes are carried out humanely and with dignity. He also said that the government is committed to protecting the rights of Indian citizens abroad, and that the situation is being closely monitored.

The controversy broke out after footage emerged showing dozens of Indian nationals being led onto a military transport plane in shackles. The incident has ignited debate on immigration policies and the treatment of undocumented migrants in the US. Rights groups and Indian officials have condemned the visuals, calling for an urgent review of deportation protocols.

While the US authorities defend their procedures, India’s diplomatic intervention signals a growing pushback against policies that may violate basic human rights. The issue is likely to remain a key topic in India-US bilateral discussions moving forward.
