IndiGo Expands Fleet with Three More Wide-Body Jets for Europe

India’s biggest low-cost carrier IndiGo has signed a firm damp lease for three Boeing 787-9 aircraft as it gears up for a large expansion in European routes. The development is a major milestone for the airline, which has hitherto flown a narrow-body fleet but is now shifting towards long-haul international operations.

The leased planes will offer IndiGo higher capacity and range, allowing it to compete in the premium sector while still offering its low-cost model. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, which are considered to be very fuel-efficient and comfortable for passengers, will likely be used on IndiGo’s most important routes in Europe, enhancing IndiGo’s international presence.

IndiGo CEO emphasized the growth is according to the company’s long-term vision to cover increased demand between Europe and India with non-stop services. “With these augmentations, we are well-prepared to deliver greater connectivity, greater comfort, and a stronger network for customers,” he emphasized.

The airline has already begun operating on its initial wide-body route from Delhi to Istanbul, with further destinations to be introduced in the months ahead. As competition in India’s aviation industry increases, IndiGo’s foray into long-haul operations marks a bold move towards becoming a major player in global travel.
