iPhone Sales Fall 5% in Holiday Quarter as AI Fails to Impress

Apple’s iPhone sales fell 5% in the 2024 holiday quarter, and its global market share dropped to 18%. The decline comes as competition increases and customers grow increasingly disappointed with the company’s perceived lag in integrating advanced AI features into its products.

Analysts indicate that though Apple remains more impeccable with the quality of its hardware, competitors had managed to make more by using AI innovations; thus, the iPhone’s ecosystem is attention-limited. Global smartphone markets were also under pressure, where customers were holding devices for longer periods due to economic uncertainties.

Although it dipped, Apple is still a leader in the market; recent investments into AI research by Apple resemble a strategic pivot to regain its leading position as an innovator. Experts predict that the new generation of iPhones may focus much more on AI-driven functionality as means to regain its momentum.

As Apple moves toward its new product cycle, the world anxiously waits for what it can do to appease consumer wants in an environment increasingly dominated by AI.
