The Marvel universe is abuzz with rumors that the studio is on the hunt for an Asian actor to feature in the next Spider-Man: Brand New Day installment. Two names that are at the center of fan chatter? K-drama heartthrob Ji Chang-wook and BTS singer Jin — both hugely popular stars throughout Asia and the rest of the world.
Although Marvel has not yet made any official casting announcements, rumor mill went into overdrive following reports from insiders that a new Asian character would play a pivotal role in Peter Parker’s adventure. Ji Chang-wook, who is famous for his action hero turns in dramas such as Healer and The K2, has been a long-time fan favorite to play superhero roles. At the same time, Jin’s charm and international presence as a member of BTS have fans envisioning his Marvel entrance as nothing less than legendary.
Social media exploded with fan art, hypothetical plotlines, and dream-casting wars. Some theorize the character might be a fresh superhero sidekick, while others predict a multiverse spin that brings a new Spider-Man altogether.
Whether it’s Jin, Ji Chang-wook, or some other surprise contender, fans are obviously eager for a new, diverse face in the MCU. Until then, it’s all eyes on Marvel Studios for that major casting announcement.
