Indian cricket legends Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar have expressed their thoughts on Ravichandran Ashwin’s possible retirement, igniting a discussion about the off-spinner’s career and legacy. Kapil Dev, the renowned all-rounder, shared his strong feelings, saying, “I wouldn’t have let him go like that,” emphasizing his faith in Ashwin’s ongoing abilities on the field.

Ashwin, one of India’s leading wicket-takers, has been a key player in the team’s achievements across all formats. With more than 700 international wickets to his credit, his impact on modern Indian cricket is unmatched. However, recent talks about his future have raised concerns, prompting responses from the cricket community. Gavaskar, another giant of Indian cricket, highlighted Ashwin’s invaluable role in both Test and limited-overs formats, calling for careful thought regarding his exit strategy.

Kapil Dev further discussed the significance of managing senior players, suggesting that a cricketer of Ashwin’s caliber deserves a proper farewell when the time comes. “Players like Ashwin are rare gems. If he’s still performing, why think of retirement?” Kapil remarked, stressing the importance of valuing talent and performance over age.

Although Ashwin has not made any formal announcements regarding retirement, the speculation surrounding his future has sparked discussions about succession planning in Indian cricket. Both Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar concur that the team management should navigate this transition with care, ensuring Ashwin receives the respect and acknowledgment he merits for his remarkable contributions to Indian cricket.
