Lebanese PM Issues Warning against Foreign Intervention in Domestic Affairs

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati issued a stern warning against foreign intervention, announcing that Lebanon will not provide the battleground for regional war. His statement came in reference to Iran as tensions rise and fear of heightened hostilities in the region increases.

Addressing a news conference in Beirut, Mikati reiterated Lebanon’s devotion to sovereignty and stability. “Nations should not intervene in the affairs of others,” he asserted, calling on all foreign nations to respect Lebanon’s neutrality. His remarks follow rising tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border, where Hezbollah’s intervention has raised fears that Lebanon is being pulled into wider regional conflicts.

Iran has been a key ally of Hezbollah, Lebanon’s most powerful armed group, which has faced increasing scrutiny over its military activities. While Tehran insists its support is for resistance movements, critics argue that its influence exacerbates instability. Mikati’s statement is seen as an attempt to reassure both Lebanese citizens and international stakeholders that Lebanon seeks to distance itself from external power struggles.

As the region remains on high alert after the continued violence in Gaza and anticipation of further conflict, Lebanon’s leadership is demanding de-escalation as well as dialogue. The Prime Minister restated that the nation’s interest lies in economic recovery and political stability, not involvement in other people’s wars.
