The Meteora Magicians are preparing for their exciting comeback to the Ultimate Golf Challenge (UGC), a unique team event that brings together passionate social golfers from diverse backgrounds.
Founded by Praveen Sharma and Vikas Sachar, with Saravjeet Talwar as their mentor and partner, the team is set to showcase their love for golf, strong teamwork, and commitment to inspiring the next generation of golfers.
Reflecting on their journey, Praveen, an avid sportsman in his youth, shares insights from their first year and the changes made for the 2024 season. He praises the UGC as an excellent platform for golfers to connect, grow, and dream.
“The organizers Brandon de Souza, the tournament director, Paryank Shah, and Kunal Seth — have done a fantastic job creating an enjoyable experience for golfers of all levels,” Praveen says.
What Makes the UGC Unique
Now in its second year, the UGC is a groundbreaking franchise competition featuring 10 teams, each with 14 players, including two women. Each team is strategically owned, adding an extra layer of excitement.
Building the Perfect Team
Vikas highlights the importance of careful planning in assembling their team.
“Last year, we were still figuring things out,” he says. “This year, we focused on selecting players based on ability and form, ensuring a stronger squad.”
The team balanced low, mid, and high handicap players, following tournament rules to create a competitive and cohesive group.
Beyond Competition
For Praveen, the UGC is about more than just winning.
“It’s an incredible way to meet new people, network, and build lasting relationships,” he shares.
Saravjeet agrees, adding, “Golf is about camaraderie, and the UGC fosters friendships and team building through a shared passion.”
Vikas believes the UGC has quickly become a cornerstone of social golf in the UAE.
“It’s not just about playing — it’s about having fun and enjoying the game together. The organizers always deliver a fantastic event,” he says.
A Lifelong Passion for Golf
Praveen’s love for sports started young and eventually led him to golf, a sport he describes as timeless and inclusive.
“Golf is unique because there’s no age barrier. You can play with people younger or older than you,” he explains.
One of his favorite golfing memories is joining a group called Dhamaal at Emirates Golf Club.
“It began as a small group and grew into a community of 50 — it feels like family now,” he says.
Ready for Season 2
The Meteora Magicians are excited about the upcoming UGC Season 2, starting January 30 at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club.
Saravjeet shares their enthusiasm, saying, “The UGC is more than a competition. It’s a chance to showcase our progress and enjoy the journey together.”
For Praveen and the team, the UGC embodies the spirit of friendship and shared goals.
“We’re not just teammates; we’re friends. That connection makes all the difference,” he says.
As they gear up for the new season, the Meteora Magicians hope to inspire more people in the UAE to embrace golf, join the community, and enjoy the journey.
