Military nurse receives $250,000 global award in UAE

Maria Victoria Juan, a 54-year-old military nurse from the Philippines, has been honored with the $250,000 Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award 2024, showcasing her dedication and innovation in the field. The award ceremony took place in Bengaluru, India, and was attended by healthcare leaders, government officials, and Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre.

As a Consultant at the Philippines Army Health Services and a Colonel in the Reserve Force of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Nurse Juan stood out among an impressive 78,000 nurses from 202 countries. Her pioneering work in establishing the first aeromedical evacuation system for the Philippines Armed Forces set her apart from a remarkable group of finalists.

A Tribute to Filipino Nurses
In her acceptance speech, Juan dedicated her award to Filipino nurses around the world, recognizing their steadfast commitment to caregiving in the face of adversity. “This recognition is not just for me; it’s for every Filipino nurse who serves with heart, resilience, and dedication across the globe,” she expressed.

Community-Focused Plans
Juan shared her intention to utilize the prize money to acquire life-saving medical equipment and support initiatives aimed at improving healthcare in underserved regions of the Philippines. “This is my way of giving back to the community that shaped my journey,” she remarked.

Event Highlights
The ceremony, organized by Aster DM Healthcare, featured notable figures such as Dr. Azad Moopen, Founder Chairman of Aster DM Healthcare, and Alisha Moopen, Managing Director and Group CEO. They highlighted the vital role nurses play in global healthcare systems.

Dr. Moopen praised Juan’s achievements, stating, “Her work epitomizes the courage and innovation needed to elevate healthcare standards and improve lives.”

Global Recognition for Nurses
Now in its third year, the Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award honors exceptional nurses who are making significant contributions to healthcare.
