New Salik Toll Gates in Dubai: Everything You Need to Know About the 2024 Expansion

Dubai is preparing to expand its Salik toll network by adding two new toll gates on major routes, starting Sunday, November 24, 2024. This initiative, announced by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), aims to better manage traffic flow and alleviate congestion throughout the city. Here are the key details:

Locations of the New Gates:
The two new toll gates will be strategically located on busy roads, following comprehensive traffic movement studies conducted by the RTA. This approach will help distribute traffic more evenly across Dubai’s roadways.

Cost of Using the Salik Gates:
The new gates will charge the standard toll fee of Dh4 per pass, consistent with the existing Salik gates in Dubai.

Traffic Management Goals:
The goal of introducing these toll gates is to ease congestion in high-traffic areas and encourage drivers to consider alternative routes and modes of transport. The RTA hopes this will improve overall traffic flow in the city.

Promotion of Public Transport:
In addition to the new toll gates, the RTA is promoting the use of alternative transportation options such as the Dubai Metro, public buses, and marine transport, which will help decrease the number of cars on the roads.

Exemptions from the Toll:
There will be instances when drivers will not incur charges at the new toll gates, such as during off-peak hours or for certain vehicles under specific conditions (e.g., electric vehicles or residents with special permits).

In summary, the two new Salik gates are part of Dubai’s ongoing efforts to enhance traffic management, reduce congestion, and promote sustainable public transport options. The gates will be operational from November 24, 2024, and drivers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new routes and regulations.
