As temperatures dip to single digits in some areas, many residents prefer staycations due to high airfares and visa delays. However, this increased demand has caused resort prices to surge, with booking agencies reporting up to a 300% rise in rates.

Staycation Rates Across the UAE

According to Ramy Badr, Sales Head at Dopamine Travels, Dubai hotel rates currently range between Dh800 and Dh2,000 per night, while Abu Dhabi prices vary from Dh600 to Dh1,800.

Ras Al Khaimah offers more affordable options, with rates from Dh500 to Dh1,500, making it a popular choice for budget-friendly travelers.

Popular Destinations

Demand for staycations has skyrocketed, with Ras Al Khaimah, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai seeing 130%, 210%, and 295% increases, respectively, compared to last year. The iconic Burj Khalifa fireworks and scenic Jebel Jais views are major attractions for those celebrating the new year.

Why Staycations are Gaining Popularity

Travel agents note the rising demand for local trips. “In Ras Al Khaimah, room rates that were Dh400 have now reached Dh1,500 at some resorts, and prices might rise further as New Year approaches,” shared Mir Raja Wasim, Manager at Galadari International Travel Services.

Raheesh Babu, COO of Musafir.com, highlighted booking trends:

  • Families (45%) are drawn to theme parks and cruises.
  • Couples (35%) prefer romantic resort stays.
  • Solo travelers (20%) opt for peaceful retreats.

“Staycations let residents enjoy quality time without the hassle of long-distance travel,” added Babu. “They’re convenient, cost-effective, and free from heavy restrictions.”

Emerging Trends in Domestic Travel

Expedia’s Winter Travel Outlook reveals a growing preference for nearby destinations to use annual leave. It notes the UAE’s diverse experiences and luxurious options continue to attract travelers.

Additionally, new trends like glamping and caravan stays are gaining popularity, offering unique experiences for residents exploring staycations.

Final Thoughts

The UAE remains a top choice for New Year’s celebrations, combining luxury, adventure, and affordability. Whether it’s watching fireworks, relaxing at a resort, or enjoying nature, there’s a perfect staycation waiting for everyone.
