While most people in the UAE enjoy a well-deserved break during the National Day holiday, some dedicated individuals continue working to keep the country running seamlessly. From healthcare workers to delivery riders and real estate agents, these essential professionals ensure services remain uninterrupted, even during holidays.
Healthcare Heroes
Dr. Nidal Shawish, an emergency medicine consultant at Burjeel Medical City, is one of those who’ll spend the four-day break attending to patients. “We see a 20 to 30 percent increase in emergency room visits during the long weekend, ranging from minor injuries to major cases,” he shared.
Although his family misses him during these times, they support his commitment to helping those in need. “Even during the holidays, I try to stay connected by sending quick messages or calling them whenever I can,” he added.
Balancing Real Estate and Family
For real estate agent and new mom Tabassum A., the long weekend means a busy schedule as client inquiries surge. “Holidays bring a lot of property inquiries because people are free,” she explained. Despite her workload, Tabassum plans to spend as much time as possible at home with her three-month-old son, avoiding outdoor activities due to the changing weather.
High Demand for Deliveries
Indian delivery rider Mohammed Aslam also works through the long break. “Party orders increase significantly during the holidays, and they often come with good tips,” he said. For Aslam, this busy period is an opportunity to make the most of the festive season.
A Busy Weekend at the Friday Market
At Al Dhaid’s Friday Market, Afghan salesman Asadullah sees a steady stream of customers, especially from those going on long drives. “This is one of our busiest times, with people stopping by to shop throughout the day,” he shared.
UAE National Day Festivities
This year, UAE National Day, now known as Eid Al Etihad, falls on December 2, marking the 53rd year of the unification of the Emirates. Both public and private sector workers enjoy a unified four-day holiday, with Sharjah’s public sector receiving an additional day off due to its weekend schedule.
The official celebrations will take place in Al Ain, featuring the UAE’s leaders and set against its stunning natural landscapes. Citizens and residents alike embrace the spirit of National Day with family gatherings, car decorations, and traditional festivities.
From essential workers keeping things running to families celebrating in vibrant style, UAE National Day remains a testament to the unity and dedication of the nation’s people.
