Marius Borg Hoiby, the 27-year-old son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been arrested on suspicion of a second rape. The police confirmed this new charge on Wednesday, just two days after Hoiby was taken into custody in connection with a separate sexual assault case.
The Two Allegations
Hoiby’s latest arrest comes after a detention on Monday regarding an initial rape allegation. The second accusation emerged during the ongoing investigation, leading police to request his remand in custody. According to police lawyer Andreas Kruszewski, the second charge involves an allegation of non-consensual sexual intercourse with a woman who was reportedly unable to resist.
History of Troubling Incidents
This isn’t the first time Hoiby has encountered legal issues. Earlier this year, he faced accusations of bodily harm following an incident at the home of a woman he was dating. Norwegian media reported that a knife was discovered lodged in a bedroom wall after the altercation, raising further concerns about his conduct.
Previous Arrests and Legal Issues
In September, Hoiby was arrested again for breaching a restraining order, stemming from a prior dispute with the same woman involved in the August incident. His latest arrest occurred while he was in a car with the alleged victim from August, prompting investigators to search his home and seize various items.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The police have initiated a thorough investigation into the new charges, and Hoiby is expected to face additional legal proceedings. The case has garnered significant media attention due to Hoiby’s royal connections and the serious nature of the allegations.
Authorities have assured the public that the investigation will be conducted carefully, and Hoiby remains in custody as further hearings are scheduled. This case raises broader concerns about domestic violence, sexual assault, and the accountability of public figures in Norway.
