Oman grabbed a dramatic late equalizer to take South Korea to a 1-1 draw in their World Cup qualifying encounter in Seoul. South Korea were left disappointed by the setback, but they still lead Asian qualifying Group B and are well positioned to qualify with regional giant Japan.
South Korea scored an early second-half goal with a well-timed header by Cho Gue-sung, but Oman remained firm and scored in the dying seconds through a gritty finish by Abdul Aziz Al-Ghufaili. The outcome leaves South Korea at the top of the group but reduces their lead over Oman.
South Korea head coach Jurgen Klinsmann was annoyed that his team couldn’t shut out the victory, whereas Branko Ivanković complimented his charges’ resolve.
The two sides will next focus on the remaining games on their calendars as South Korea must win just once in their final two to qualify.
